Let these images transport you to an unforgettable night in Lewes town as Bonfire Societies fill the streets with revelry and light up the autumn sky. What is Lewes Bonfire? In case you are not aware, Lewes Bonfire is a series of elaborate celebrations held annually in Lewes, England on November 5th. It is the largest and most famous Guy Fawkes Night celebration in the UK, earning Lewes the title of "bonfire capital of the world." The festivities commemorate the foiling of the Catholic Gunpowder Plot in 1605 as well as the burning of 17 Protestant martyrs in Lewes during the 16th century Marian Persecutions. The main event features six separate torchlit processions organized by local bonfire societies, with participants dressed in colorful historical costumes. Up to 5,000 take part in the parades and fireworks displays, while crowds of up to 80,000 spectators flock to the small town of Lewes to witness the spectacle. As an agency based right here in Lewes, we at Shootlab love being part of the Bonfire Night celebrations and traditions. What happens at Lewes Bonfire? The Lewes Bonfire Night festivities kick off around 7pm with six local bonfire societies parading down the town's main street bearing flaming torches and effigies of Guy Fawkes, Pope Paul V and who ever else is a villain in society at the time. Shootlab are always on had to photograph these often iconic effigies. As the torchlit procession passes, crowds chant "burn him!" at larger-than-life caricatures of the year's most notorious villains. After circling the high street, each society proceeds to separate fields at the town's edge to burn their effigies in massive bonfires, with fireworks and revelry lasting into the early morning hours. This raucous 300-year tradition blends anarchy and spectacle, with participants dressed in elaborate historical costumes and the event culminating in the dramatic burning of the towering effigies. What is the history of Lewes Bonfire Night? The Lewes Bonfire Night celebrations likely began after the failure of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, though they may also commemorate the execution of 17 Protestant martyrs burned at the stake in Lewes between 1555-1557. The event was celebrated sporadically until becoming an annual tradition in the 1820s. However, the rowdy celebrations led to rioting and were banned in the 1840s, before returning in a more organized parade form in the 1850s. In the late 19th century, distinct bonfire societies were founded like Cliffe and Lewes Borough to organize the event. Traditions were introduced like rolling flaming tar barrels through the streets. In the 20th century, effigies of Guy Fawkes and the pope became central figures burned in the bonfires. The distinct Lewes Bonfire Night festivities grew into the largest Fifth of November celebration in the UK by the late 20th century, attracting tens of thousands of spectators to our Sussex town. Lewes Town - the day after Bonfire! The morning after the legendary Lewes Bonfire Night it is eerily quiet in our town and has returned to its tranquil norms. The smoke has cleared from the massive effigy bonfires on the outskirts, leaving only ashes. The debris from fireworks and festivities have been swept away. We often get up early and take a walk around the Lewes streets, it is very atmospheric! Our doors are back open again for business as usual after closing for the chaotic November 5th celebrations that draw over 80,000 revelers to our small East Sussex town. No longer do hordes of costumed Bonfire Society members parade through streets lined with spectators. The extra police and paramedic presence has departed. As Lewes quietly recovers from hosting Britain's largest Guy Fawkes Night events, only the lingering smell of gunpowder serves as a reminder of the previous night's fiery spectacle that earned Lewes its reputation as the bonfire capital of the world. • Beauty Product Skincare Photography for Natural Skin-care Brand, 360 botanics

Check out the creative skincare photography images Shootlab created for natural skincare brand 360 Botanics, a Vegan Skincare Company based in Lewes, Sussex. As a premier Content Creation Agency, we are passionate about delivering top-tier visual content. Keep reading to get 'skin care photoshoot ideas' and learn about our approach to this skincare photography shoot. See some of the stunning beauty product photography images we captured for 360 Botanics at our Photo Studio in Sussex. Skin care Photoshoot ideas - Our creative approach The goal of the skincare photography shoot was to create a series of images for the new 360 Botanics website and their upcoming social media campaign. The studio photography features 360 Botanics' amazing natural skincare ingredients, including summer flowers, cloves, and cinnamon orange segments. The brand has a simple, minimalist design aesthetic, and we reflected this in our photography by using simple tones, shapes, and forms. We also included some of the beautiful raw ingredients that go into their skincare products. We decided to shoot a series of flatlay images to highlight the natural ingredients and create striking visual compositions. What is Flatlay Photography? Flat lay photography is a style of photography that involves taking pictures of items arranged on a flat surface. This can include anything from food and drink to products and flowers. Flatlay photos are usually taken from above, giving the viewer a bird's-eye view of the scene. One of the benefits of this style of photography is that it can be used to create highly creative and visually appealing compositions. Objects can be laid out in a pleasing way, in symmetrical arrangements, or colour-coordinated, or using repetition to create a dynamic image. Flatlays also tend to be less cluttered than other types of photos, making them perfect for highlighting individual items. If you're interested in trying your hand at flat lay photography, all you need is a camera, a tripod, and a few carefully chosen props. With a little practice, you'll be taking stunning flatlays in no time! For the product photography skincare photo shoot in the photo-studio, we decided to shoot a series of Flatlay-photographs, to highlight and celebrate the natural ingredients that make up the company's Vegan-Skincare range. Check out the images below, they offer natural skincare product photography skincare photoshoot ideas! How to shoot Flatlay Photographs A lot of people ask 'how do I shoot Flatlay-Photographs? Flat lay or Flatlay Photography as it is sometimes known is where you position the camera directly above the products or objects you are shooting and create a pleasing composition. It is a great way to tell visual stories and allows you to be creative with your Photography. In this case for our Flatlay, we incorporated natural Ingredients such as Citrus Fruits, Lavender, Rose Oils & Peppermint – all photographed in their raw natural form. We then set about creating our Flatlay composition, first choosing a coloured background, lighting the scene and laying out the different elements to make a pleasing visual composition. The 'Winter Spice' Vegan-Soap ingredients include a mix of cloves, orange / citrus, and Cinnamon. We decided to photograph this flat-lay, in a way that graphically displays the products ingredients in a bold and strong visual way, echoing the natural ethos and brand values of the company. The Cinnamon sticks have a really nice flaky texture and we laid those out in a vertical position to give the composition energy. The orange segments had a really nice sheen to them, evocative of the moisturising qualities of the soap. Scattering the cloves on the background added a random pattern which broke up the formal structure created by the other elements. In this Flatlay-photograph of 360's CHARCOAL & PEPPERMINT ORGANIC CLEANSING SOAP. The image includes Mint leaves, Charcoal pieces and Natural Oils, showing the ingredients that go into the soap in a bold graphic style. Above is a Flatlay photo of the Calendula & Lemongrass Vegan soap, for this we included real Lemongrass sticks and Calendula as visual props, again taken from the real ingredients used in the product For the Vegan Gifts collection on the Website, we created a series of studio photos that give the 360 botanics gift products a high-quality look and feel, this is achieved with the use of luxurious marble plinths and the use of warm background tones. Keep scrolling to see some more of our creative skincare product photography. For the Rose Radiant Facial Mist, we decided to remove the lid of the bottle and have a succulent Rose bursting out the top. Making a strong visual connection between the product and the natural ingredients that are used to make it. We chose a white background for the image and dynamic studio lighting, so that the beauty product really stood out! The image above showcases an array of 360 Botanics' beauty products, specifically highlighting the Quartz Candle from their exclusive crystal-inspired candle line. The use of vintage Marble plinths serves not only to draw the eye towards the featured items but also acts as a device to evoke an aura of sophistication and opulence. The candle collection from 360 Botanics embodies the essence of luxury and is presented in a way that evokes a sense of quality and luxury The Pink Clay Mask is one of the brands most popular selling items. We decided to give this product a bold and playful look by choosing a pink backdrop and a matching colour palette. The choice of colours perfectly reflects the product's name, as well as the contents of the mask. About Shootlab: What we do SHOOTLAB are a content Creation Company based in Lewes, East Sussex. • Lewes photoshoot Sussex, at The Grain Store, using Canon EOS R5

As Lewes photographers, SHOOTLAB were commissioned to produce lifestyle photography for The Grain Store which is located in Lewes, Sussex. The Grain Store is a luxury holiday home located just outside the castle town of Lewes in East Sussex. It is a pleasure as always to shoot at TGS, one of our favourite photo shoot locations in the Lewes area. The Grain Store is a beautiful historic building which has been converted into a luxury holiday home, studio apartment and event space. The Hot Tub photoshoot took place in July, on a really sunny day and as well as producing a series of photos we also used our DJI drone to create some stunning aerial photography and videography with the Sussex hills in the background. Using the Canon EOS R5 on a photoshoot In terms of equipment, for the Lewes photoshoot we used a Canon EOS R5 which is the top mirrorless DSLR from Canon and is amazing for both stills photography and also Video production shooting up to at 8k Video in Raw. As the natural light was so special on the day, all we needed in terms of light modifiers were some bounce cards and reflectors. The camera offers a really fast workflow with lightening fast autofocus and an amazing dynamic range, making it a joy to capture wonderful photos as well as shooting amazing Raw video. Photos taken with Canon EOS R5 The Canon EOS R5 is a true Hybrid’ Full Frame mirrorless Camera, with a 45 megapixel full-frame sensor. It's capable of shooting 8K video and has incredible in-body stabilisation. In this blog, we'll take a look at some photos we took using the Canon EOS R5 to show you what this camera is capable of! It's not surprising that it been so well received by photographers and filmmakers alike. In fact, many professional photographers are switching to the EOS R system from their existing DSLRs, this is partly due to the R5 itself and its incredible feature set. This blog will take you on the photoshoot using the EOS R5, a lifestyle photoshoot that took place in Lewes, East Sussex incorporating portraits and landscapes What are the best lenses for the Canon eos R5 camera? Canon offers an extensive selection of great zoom and prime EF lenses, and we're going to be sharing our thoughts on a few of our favorites. For this photoshoot we used our Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM, our Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM, and our Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM. The shoot took place in a controlled environment (we weren't capturing action) so we could move towards or away from our subjects, because of this we didn't need our zoom lenses. Whenever possible we use our prime lenses to achieve the highest quality image. Using EF Lenses on R Mount Adapter Canon has long history of manufacturing amazing lenses, from their legendary 50mm f/1.2L UsM L series lens (Canon EF Mount), their Canon EF 35mm F1.4 L USM II (Canon EF Mount) and Canon EF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM II (Canon EF Mount). For this photoshoot we purely used a mixture of Canon EF lenses, as they are so good! The standard Mount Adapter EF-EOS R allows EF-S and EF lenses to be used on EOS R cameras and works seamlessly. However no doubt over time we will make the shift from using EF lenses to using R lenses. Using Canon 24mm F/1.4L USM II EF for a Photoshoot So on the shoot day we mostly used our Canon EF-S 24mm to achieve the dramatic hot tub images like shown in the photo above. This allowed us to not only show our model in the Hot Tub, but also include stunning views of the South Downs and have The Grain Store itself in the background. Using a Canon 24mm F/1.4L for a wider perspective! Once again for this lifestyle photo we used our trusty Canon 24mm F/1.4L USM II EF, this gave the image a more dramatic look, with a wider perspective! • Top Tips for Getting Started as a Gimbal Operator in Video Production

Are you a videographer interested in becoming a freelance gimbal operator? This guide will provide you with the essential information you need to get started in this exciting field. You'll learn about the equipment you'll need, how to find clients, and how to hone your skills to stand out in a competitive market. Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your freelance videography services, this guide will provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to succeed as a gimbal operator. Why do people use Camera Gimbals? The term ‘gimbal’ is often used to describe a camera stabilising system, but the word actually refers to a balancing apparatus that is commonly found in homes such as toys. When it comes to filmmaking, gimbals have been reimagined as compact camera stabilisers that are ideal for creating smooth video footage once only achieved by professional Steadicam operators.A camera gimbal system can be used to support everything from small cameras like mobile phone gimbals, to gimbals for large Cinema cameras and lenses, significantly reducing vibration and shakiness when shooting. The use of a gimbal during filming can improve the overall production value of a film by making your shots that contain movement, appear more professional and stable, you can capture smooth, stable footage even if you're moving around a lot! It's also perfect for capturing video of people in motion without any shake. In addition to being an excellent tool for any videographer or filmmaker, operating a gimbal also presents an opportunity to become a cameraman on Gimbal Operator gigs, or even permanent positions, working directly with clients who need these services. What is a Gimbal? A gimbal is a device that is used to keep an object steady and balanced while it is in motion. In the Video Production world, a gimbal is a tool that stabilises a camera, reducing camera shake and vibrations to produce smooth, professional-looking footage. Camera gimbals are often used for travel videos, documentaries, and interviews, but some filmmakers also use them for cinematic shots or creating Timelapse's. Gimbals have been used in filmmaking for decades, but they have only recently become more accessible to filmmakers who work on a budget. Miniature gimbals can be used with small cameras like GoPros, small mirrorless cameras or gimbal for phones. They are also commonly integrated into drones to create stabilised footage even when flying the drone in high winds. So thinking about becoming a freelance gimbal operator? As a Videographer there are a variety of skills you can develop to become an independent gimbal operator and get gimbal operator gigs. The first step, though, is understanding what exactly a gimbal operator does. The role is usually reserved for camera operators who have a lot of experience, but there are some entry-level positions as well. To become a successful freelancer as a gimbal operator, you'll need to have the right kind of equipment and knowledge to meet the needs of your clients. You will need to master the key gimbal movements required for video shoots. These include things like tracking shots, crane shots, arc movement shots. Here are some steps you can take to land gigs as a freelance gimbal operator, along with some advice from people already doing it successfully. 1. How to Become a Freelance Gimbal Operator For many people who work in filmmaking or videography as a career, using a gimbal is a standard part of the process when filming. If you are interested in becoming a freelance gimbal videographer, you will need to be familiar with the equipment used in the industry and be able to use it effectively while filming. At the same time, you will also need to know how to market yourself effectively so that you can find clients who need your services. Gimbal operator jobs will usually fall under Camera Operator jobs on camera crew/filmmaking websites such as Production Hub, Mandy and sites like Linkedin and Facebook. In order to become a freelance gimbal operator, you will need to start by investing in some equipment, including a gimbal, a camera, and an option for processing and storing footage. You can expect to spend between £2000-£4000 on these necessary items. After purchasing equipment, you will need to find clients who need your filming services. This can be done by reaching out to videography companies that may need videographers with gimbal experience for Gimbal Operator gigs , or by putting together a gimbal videographer showreel and marketing yourself to businesses and individuals who could benefit from using a gimbal while filming. Once you are confident in your Gimbal operating skills Network and market yourself: Reach out to potential clients and let them know about your services as a gimbal operator. Join industry groups and organisations, and participate in events and workshops to meet other professionals and build your network. 2. Gimbal Equipment Requirements Invest in quality equipment: Having reliable, high-quality gimbal equipment is essential for a freelance gimbal operator. This will not only improve the quality of your work but also help you stand out from the competition. As a freelance operator, it is likely that you will mainly be working with DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, as these are the most practical cameras for gimbal work in terms of weight/payload. Depending on the type of gimbal that you operate, you may also need specific types of cameras, lenses, and mounting accessories make sure you have all the necessary accessories before going on a shoot. If a client does have a specialist camera or large cinema camera that demands a larger gimbal rig than the one you own, it would be best to refer them to another camera operator who has the correct equipment for the job. You may also need a gimbal mounting system for vehicles, a remote gimbal controller, and a gimbal bag for safe transportation. 3. Build a Gimbal Videographer Portfolio Before you can start making money as a freelance gimbal operator, you will need to build a portfolio of videos that show off your gimbal filming skills. Start by making short videos with the camera that you have available, whether this is a mobile phone,DSLR or Cinema camera, and then submit your films to video sharing websites, such as Vimeo, or to freelance websites that specialise in videography, such as Upwork. To get your foot in the door and start taking on jobs, you may need to start out as an unpaid intern or assistant, and gradually work your way up to becoming a full-fledged operator. Many companies also have social media pages where you can submit your work. Once you have created a portfolio of your gimbal work, you can then start contacting potential clients directly. 4.Get Good at Filming Moving Subjects Practice and become proficient with gimbal operation: The more you practice and become comfortable with using a gimbal, the more confident you will be in your abilities and the more likely you will be able to deliver high-quality results for your clients. You may find that the majority of the filming jobs that you book are focused on shooting moving subjects, such as sporting events, races, concerts, or other live events, where a tripod or other forms of stabilisation equipment may not be practical. In these instances, you will have to rely on your skills as an operator to create smooth, professional-looking video clips. The best way to practice shooting moving subjects is by regularly attending sporting events or other events where you can practice filming with a gimbal. You can film short clips that you can then upload to video-sharing sites like YouTube or Vimeo to demonstrate your videography skills. You can also try filming yourself doing simple tasks, such as walking around the house, to get used to operating the gimbal and getting good at controlled movements. 5. Be flexible and adaptable:Familiarise Yourself with Different Brands and Models of Gimbals As a freelance gimbal operator, you will likely be working on a variety of projects and with different clients. It's important to be flexible and adaptable in order to meet the needs and demands of each project and client. This may require you to learn new skills or work with different equipment, so being open to learning and adapting to new situations will be key to your success. Before you can start accepting jobs, you need to research the different types of gimbals that are currently on the market and decide which type of gimbal you want to specialise in operating. While there are many different brands of gimbals including Dji, Movi, Zhiyun, they all fall under one of three types: - Handheld gimbals which are small, handheld units that can be easily transported. They are usually used with single-operator setups but can be used by two people with the use of remote controlling for focusing and movement. - Steadicam style gimbals are large, heavy-duty gimbals that are operated by a single operator. They are commonly used for films, documentaries, and live events. - Vest-style gimbals are worn on the body, like a vest, which allows multiple people to operate the gimbal during shoots. A single operator can also use these gimbals, but they are not as commonly used in this way.Stay up to date with industry trends and techniques: The field of gimbal operation is constantly evolving, so it's important to stay current with new technologies and techniques. This will help you offer the best possible service to your clients and remain competitive in the market. Conclusion Gimbals are a helpful tool that can be used by both amateur and professional videographers and filmmakers. As a freelance gimbal operator, you can use your skills to create smooth, stable action video footage for clients. Before you can start looking for gimbal jobs though, you need to research the different types of gimbals that are currently on the market and decide which type of gimbal you want to specialise in operating. Once you have acquired the necessary equipment and built your videography portfolio, you can start booking jobs as a freelance operator and start making money from your videographer skills. If you're passionate about cinematography you should definitely learn how to use a camera gimbal, why not start your journey today! You can then find out whether the company is reliable and if they met their clients needs. Evaluate Relevant Experience with Your Type of Video A company who mainly does commercial work may not be the best fit for producing your indie film. Seek those with proven project experience closely matching your specific needs. For example, for a corporate recruitment video, you want a company well-versed in representing brands positively through video. Research Their Equipment and Production Capabilities Modern video equipment and production tools result in higher-quality outputs and increased editing capability. Ask what cameras, lenses, stabilisers, lighting, mics, editing software and other gear they utilise. See if they use in-house equipment or rentals. Renting can provide access to more advanced tools for your budget. Understand Their Pricing Approach Video production quotes vary based on the scope of your project and needs. Get clarity upfront on how they price their services to avoid surprise add-ons later. Ask if they charge by the project, per hour, per day, or other model. See if they provide discounts for multi-video contracts. Request References Ask prospects if they can provide two or three references you can contact about their experience during past video projects. Calling a former client offers invaluable insights Speaking to someone directly gives you a better feel for what it will be like to work with this company. Evaluating and comparing providers across these criteria will reveal those most qualified for your particular video production needs and preferences. Identify the top 2-3 local contenders from your research to move forward with. Setting Up an Initial Consultation Once you’ve narrowed options to two or three top contenders and , the next step is to set up exploratory calls or meetings and selecting the right Local Video Partner This is a chance to learn more before committing. Prepare Questions in Advance Compile a list of questions that are important for you to have answered to make an informed decision. For example: How is your production process structured from start to finish? How long will this project take based on my timeline? How many revisions rounds are included? How do you communicate during the project? Who will be my main point of contact? Can I see examples of scripts or storyboards? Leave time for them to ask clarifying questions on your vision and needs as well. The more details they understand upfront, the more accurate the estimate they can provide. Gauge How Well They Understand Your Project Notice how interested they seem in the context and goals for your production. Do they ask thoughtful questions and listen attentively? Are they genuinely excited by the prospect? Their level of curiosity indicates how invested they may be in achieving great results for you. Assess Your Rapport and Communication Styles Consider not just their qualifications but your interpersonal dynamic. You’ll be communicating frequently throughout the project, so it’s important you are comfortable working with them. Do you click on a personal level? Do they “get” you and your vision? The collaboration will go smoother if your communication styles mesh well. This is also a chance for you to share examples to convey the look, feel, and tone you want for your video. Give them a sense of your priorities and preferences. The more context they gain, the more customised their proposal can be. Just be wary of oversharing creative details before you have a contract in place. Making the final decision on which Video Production Company to Select After completing the research and consultations, compare the frontrunners against each other to make your final choice: Compare Pros and Cons Create a simple table listing the benefits each company offers along with any drawbacks or gaps compared to your needs and budget. Seeing them side-by-side on paper can provide a helpful perspective. Trust Your Instincts There are objective factors to judge, but also listen to your overall impression from interacting with the company. Did you feel entirely comfortable with them? Confident they could deliver what you hoped for? Sometimes that gut feeling ends up being right. It can tip the scales when all else seems equal. Key Takeaways: Finding the Right Local Video Production Company Here are the key steps to recap when searching for a talented video production partner in your region: Clearly define the purpose, budget range, and timeline for your video project. Search online directories, Google, local organisations, and ask for referrals to build your prospects list. Vet companies thoroughly looking at portfolios, reviews, relevant experience, production capabilities, pricing, and by requesting references. Set up exploratory calls or meetings with your top 2-3 contenders. Evaluate pros/cons, your impressions, and contract details to make your final choice. Trust your instincts throughout the process to find the best fit. Frequently Asked Questions How much does a professional video production company cost? The cost can range dramatically based on the length, production quality, number of filming days, editing time required, and other variables. A simple 3-minute company overview video could cost £2,000 - £4,000. A high-production commercial could range from £2,000 - £15,000. Get quotes from a few companies to compare pricing. Should I work with a local or national video production company? There are benefits to both. Larger national companies have vast expertise but may lack connections to great local talent. Smaller local providers know the geography, have lower travel costs, but have smaller teams. Evaluate options case-by-case weighing portfolios, experience, pricing, and responsiveness. What questions should I ask during a video production consultation? Key questions include: How does your production and revision process work? How long will my project take? What equipment do you use? Who will be my main point of contact? Can I see examples of your work in my specific niche? How flexible are you on pricing for multi-video contracts? Ask plenty of questions upfront before signing a contract. What contracts terms should I look out for? Review the video licensing rights, number of revision rounds, total costs, payment terms, cancellation policies, who owns the raw footage, and liability details. Get any vague points clarified before signing. Also consider asking for 2-3 references to contact about their experience. Should I provide creative direction or let the company drive the process? Offer clear direction on your goals, preferred visual style, where it will be used, target audience, and other relevant context. But also stay open to their creative expertise - they are the professionals after all! Find the balance between providing guidance while letting their talents shine through. How can I get the most out of my video production budget? Define must-have priorities upfront so spending stays focused on key areas that align to your goals. Consider constraining aspects like overly complex scenes, shooting days, travel, or props if needed to allocate budget where it has most impact. But don’t try to cut too many corners or quality may suffer. Conclusion Finding the best video production company in your area can be challenging, especially if you don’t know what to look for. As you can see there are many things you need to consider when hiring a video production company. Hopefully, this article has given you some insights and will help you in your search to find a great Video Production company for your business. Follow these tips to match promising local video companies to your specific needs and preferences. Soon you’ll be on your way to video success! • What is the BEST Art Gallery in Sussex?

What is the best art gallery in Sussex? Here at Shootlab we are massive lovers of arts and culture and spend a lot of time in Sussex where we are based. We have visited most of the Sussex art galleries and museums and enjoyed doing so. We wanted to talk about our favourite Sussex art gallery, which in our view is the best gallery in Sussex, it's the Art Gallery at Charleston located in Firle, East Sussex. The gallery holds a wide range of thought-provoking art exhibitions that are inspired by the spirit of artists Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell, who lived at Charleston for over 50 years! Charleston Sussex is a modernist home and studio of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant that now hosts inspiring exhibitions, talks, and events. A new exhibition space was created at Charleston, designed by Jamie Fobert Architects and opened to the public in 2018. The restored barns and new building now house an auditorium, education spaces, a set of new galleries, and a café. The venue is a popular destination for exciting exhibitions, discussions, and activities that bring people together to discuss art and ideas. Their most well-known festival is the Charleston Festival, held every year attracting artists, writers, actors, and actresses. More recently they have started Charleston Festival of the Garden, which has become a staple of the summer festival season. Held across four days during the height of summer, between 14-17 July, in the stunning grounds and garden at Charleston. Exhibitions at Charleston Art Gallery Sussex We love filming at Charleston. SHOOTLAB was asked by Charleston Trust to produce three exhibition videos to promote their exhibition at their art gallery in Sussex. Charleston is the modernist home and studio of painters Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. It is also a museum and art gallery. Charleston's art gallery is one of the leading galleries in Sussex for contemporary art and cultural events. Charleston wanted a series of short exhibition videos produced to promote their Langlands & Bell exhibition. They enlisted the art and design critic Jack Self to take the viewer on a tour of the exhibitions and to explore the work by the Turner-nominated artists. Behind-the-scenes filming, inside the Charleston gallery with lighting and shooting on our Canon C70 Video cameras. Langlands & Bell: Absent Artists Film Curated by Langlands & Bell, ‘Absent Artists’ explores artists’ studios in which the artists themselves are conspicuously absent. The exhibition includes works by Annie Leibovitz, David Hockney, Michael Craig-Martin, William Hogarth and James Ensor in a range of different mediums including paintings, drawings, photographs, sculpture and print. The exhibition draws parallels with Charleston, a private space which has been turned public in the absence of the artists who created it. The exhibition also includes an installation in the house's attic space, which was originally Vanessa Bells' studio. This space explores traces of the absent artist and considers the studio, as a place of contemplation, creation, and of retreat. Langlands & Bell: Ideas of Utopia Film Watch the exhibition video we produced that looks at Ideas of Utopia these artworks examine architectural spaces and how over time buildings have attempted to create utopias whether domestic, religious, social or commercial. The exhibition also considers Charleston as an important place of early modernist social experimentation and questions a building’s power to unite us, separate us, protect us, and inspire thought and creativity. Langlands & Bell: On Role of Architecture Film Watch the 'On Role of Architecture' art gallery video we produced for the exhibition. ‘It is through the [artists] recreation, the intense dedication and monastic focus on these buildings, that so many of their inner secrets are revealed.’ — Jack Self Check our Katy Hessel blog post as she explores Nina Hamnett at Charleston Click here to View Read about Charleston Valentines event with artist, actor Lauren John Joseph and actor Pearl Mackie. • Drone Interiors Photoshoot feat Piglet in Bed bedding

Shootlab were recently commissioned by The Grain Store to shoot interior photography, a short form video and Instagram Reel content for their socials. The-Grain-Store is an amazing holiday home and creative shoot location just outside Lewes in East Sussex. The photoshoot was organised to promote their Piglet in Bed, bed Linen range and to show the luxury and comforts of the bedrooms when staying at The Grain Store. The Grain Store has incredible interior-design with beautiful modern art and furnishings. For the interiors photoshoot we used a Drone DJI Air 2s drone for the drone interior photography and Cinematic Drone filming we also used a DJI RS2 Gimbal for Videography and Canon R6 DSLR. See how we create stunning and eye-catching images for our clients using the unique perspective of a Drone on an Interior Photoshoot. Burnt Orange - Piglet-in-Bed linen bedding The interior photography below shows the garden bedroom, the bedroom-interior-design features the 'Burnt Orange' Piglet-in-Bed linen. The bedroom has direct access to the beautiful garden with views of the South Downs, with the light pouring in, casting dramatic shadows over the bed and polished concrete floor. Below is a Drone-photo, taken just below the ceiling, to get the full image of Piglet Bedding on the bed and to create a dramatic image. We used a DJI Air 2s drone ,drones with camera for the interiors shoot. The drone DJI Air 2s has really good RAW photo image quality and can seamlessly blend with the photos taken on the Canon R6. The image below shows the twin bedroom at The Grain Store, the bedding is the Oatmeal Piglet in Bed linen bedding range. The sunlight from the Velux windows creates beautiful lighting and shadowing, this image was photographed on the Canon R6 with 35mm f1.8 lens. 'Sage-green' Piglet-in-Bed linen bedding Pillow detail of the Sage-Green Piglet in Bed, bed linen photographed on Canon R6 with EF 50mm f1.2 lens For all of interior design photography throughout the photoshoot, we incorporated various props, including dried-flowers, lifestyle magazines and contemporary books to create a more lifestyle feel to the photo shoot, The props were chosen for their style, colours and associations. The photo above shows Piglet bedding, Bed Sage-Green bedding with a bed spread by designer Claire Gaudion . Claire Gaudion work is inspired by a love of nature, designs and includes homeware collections influenced by natures natural colours & patterns. Drone Interior photography: How to get cinematic drone shots Flying a drone indoors: To get the best drone filming and interior-photography you need to learn to control the drone with smooth slow movements. The drone photo below was taken from directly above looking down on the subject , showing the full double bed and bedroom space, and also in order to achieve the camera sweep, dolly like movements, we used our DJI Air 2s . Flying Dji Air 2s indoors requires skill and it had to be flown very slowly with carefully controlled micro movements to avoid the hanging lights. Using a Drone inside for interior photography and filming takes practice and experience. However once you feel confident using a drone for interior photography, it gives you lots of creative filming options and you are able capture and create unique footage and striking photos. The DJI Air 2s drone that we use shoots RAW image files so you have the same ability to colour correct the images in post as you do with a DSLR such as the Canon R6, a camera that we use for our photo shoots. What is the best drone for interior photography ? At SHOOTLAB we use a DJI Air 2S for our drone interior Photography and Videography, we use this drone for a variety of reasons. It features a 1-inch CMOS sensor so is great in low light, very important for interior photography. It is a really compact drone weighing less than 600g, This means that it is easy to manoeuvre when shooting drone photo inside and will cause less damage should you crash it. DJI Air 2S captures drone photos at 20MP in both JPEG and Raw files. The RAW files really allow for total colour and exposure correction Adobe Lightroom in post. correction. In terms of drone-video the Air 2S is capable of shooting 5.4K/25fps and 4K/50fps video in 10-bit Dlog. This colour profile can record up to one billion colours with a super detailed image. So from the point of view of size versus quality and price point the Air 2S drone ticks a lot of boxes. • Katy Hessel Tour of the Nina Hamnett & Lisa Brice Exhibition at Charleston, Sussex

The Charleston Trust invited Katy Hessel, writer and founder of @thegreatwomenartists Instagram account, to take viewers on a video tour around the Nina Hamnett & Lisa Brice Exhibition at Charleston, Sussex. Nina Hamnett was a highly talented artist and part of the bohemian set in London in the 1920s. She was friends with artists such as Mark Gertler and Dora Carrington, and her work was collected by Roger Fry. However, she fell out of favour with the art world in the 1930s and was largely forgotten until her death in 1969. Katy explains how Hamnett's work is being rediscovered and reevaluated in light of recent interest in British Modernism. Katy also introduces the work of Lisa Brice, a contemporary artist who often references Hamnett in her own work. Katy ends her tour with a discussion of how both Hamnett and Brice challenge traditional ideas about femininity and female sexuality. See a selection of our arts-related video projects on our Arts & Culture web page. Watch the Katy Hessel art video below that SHOOTLAB created to promote the exhibition Who is Katy Hessel? • Architectural Photography & Drone filming for Housing development, Flimwell Park in Sussex

Shootlab Architectural Photographers Shootlab were commissioned by Flimwell Park in Sussex to produce a series of Architectural Photographs (Aerial photography) and Drone Videography for Flimwell Park's Website and Social accounts. Flimwell Park is a unique, sustainably built, eco live /workspace woodland development on which includes a restaurant and Lodge on the East Sussex and Kent border. As well as shooting all of the exterior spaces we also photographed some of the Hive Coworking spaces which include hot-desking, small office spaces, and meeting rooms, others eco units are used as standalone business units and the remaining by Artisan Makers and Craft People. Flimwell Park Eco-development The whole site has a very modern architectural look to it and was a pleasure to photograph. The work units on the site are sustainably built, made from 100% eco-construction. Built on stilts and accessed via galvanised metal walkways. Once completed there will be an onsite restaurant/cafe nestled in the woodland landscape, for the workers and visitors alike. People visiting Flimwell Park may choose to visit and walk amongst the woodland pathways, stop by at one of the Makers workshops to see what's going on, and then take a refreshment break in the eco-cafe. The site also has two large sustainable houses being built, in eco as well as the 'Focal Building' that will be taken by Bartlett School of Architecture. The architecture students will visit from Bartletts University and use the space to create experimental structures in the large hall space. They will also be able to stay overnight in one of the eco-solar-powered chalets. Architectural Photography As architectural photographers, we were excited to photograph the new development at Flimwell. We arrived at the Flimwell Park site early in the morning to photograph the modern and sustainably built work units at sunrise. The units are elevated on stilts and connected by galvanized metal walkways. Once finished, there will be an onsite restaurant and cafe nestled in the woodlands for workers and visitors to enjoy. People who come to Flimwell Park can walk the wooded pathways and stop in at the makers' workshops to see what's happening. They can then take a break in the eco-cafe. There are also two large sustainable houses being built on the property, as well as the 'Focal Building' that will be used by the Bartlett School of Architecture. We look forward to when the architecture students visit from Bartlett's University and use the space to construct experimental structures in the large hall.
