As Lewes photographers, SHOOTLAB were commissioned to produce lifestyle photography for The Grain Store which is located in Lewes, Sussex.The Grain Store is a luxury holiday home located just outside the castle town of Lewes in East Sussex. It is a pleasure as always to shoot at TGS, one of our favourite photo shoot locations in the Lewes area. The Grain Store is a beautiful historic building which has been converted into a luxury holiday home, studio apartment and event space. The Hot Tub photoshoot took place in July, on a really sunny day and as well as producing a series of photos we also used our DJI drone to create some stunning aerial photography and videography with the Sussex hills in the background.
Using the Canon EOS R5 on a photoshoot
In terms of equipment, for the Lewes photoshoot we used a Canon EOS R5 which is the top mirrorless DSLR from Canon and is amazing for both stills photography and also Video production shooting up to at 8k Video in Raw.
As the natural light was so special on the day, all we needed in terms of light modifiers were some bounce cards and reflectors. The camera offers a really fast workflow with lightening fast autofocus and an amazing dynamic range, making it a joy to capture wonderful photos as well as shooting amazing Raw video.

The Canon EOS R5 is a true Hybrid’ Full Frame mirrorless Camera, with a 45 megapixel full-frame sensor. It's capable of shooting 8K video and has incredible in-body stabilisation. In this blog, we'll take a look at some photos we took using the Canon EOS R5 to show you what this camera is capable of! It's not surprising that it been so well received by photographers and filmmakers alike. In fact, many professional photographers are switching to the EOS R system from their existing DSLRs, this is partly due to the R5 itself and its incredible feature set.

What are the best lenses for the Canon eos R5 camera?
Canon offers an extensive selection of great zoom and prime EF lenses, and we're going to be sharing our thoughts on a few of our favorites. For this photoshoot we used our Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM, our Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM, and our Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM.
The shoot took place in a controlled environment (we weren't capturing action) so we could move towards or away from our subjects, because of this we didn't need our zoom lenses. Whenever possible we use our prime lenses to achieve the highest quality image.
Using EF Lenses on R Mount Adapter
Canon has long history of manufacturing amazing lenses, from their legendary 50mm f/1.2L UsM L series lens (Canon EF Mount), their Canon EF 35mm F1.4 L USM II (Canon EF Mount)
and Canon EF 70-200mm F4 L IS USM II (Canon EF Mount). For this photoshoot we purely used a mixture of Canon EF lenses, as they are so good!
The standard Mount Adapter EF-EOS R allows EF-S and EF lenses to be used on EOS R cameras and works seamlessly. However no doubt over time we will make the shift from using EF lenses to using R lenses.
Using Canon 24mm F/1.4L USM II EF for a Photoshoot
So on the shoot day we mostly used our Canon EF-S 24mm to achieve the dramatic hot tub images like shown in the photo above. This allowed us to not only show our model in the Hot Tub, but also include stunning views of the South Downs and have The Grain Store itself in the background.
Using a Canon 24mm F/1.4L for a wider perspective!
Once again for this lifestyle photo we used our trusty Canon 24mm F/1.4L USM II EF, this gave the image a more dramatic look, with a wider perspective!
