How do you capture the energy of bold, unfiltered debate in one of London’s most iconic venues, The Tabernacle in Notting Hill?"

Shootlab recently had the opportunity to film Zeteo’s Bold and Unfiltered 1-Year Anniversary Tour at The Tabernacle in Notting Hill — a celebration of journalism, activism, and fearless public discourse. Featuring powerful discussions led by Mehdi Hasan, Sangita Myska, and Owen Jones, this inspiring event needed visual storytelling that was as dynamic as the conversation itself. Here’s how we approached event videography at The Tabernacle, combining cinematic camera work, crystal-clear audio, and creative direction to bring the evening to life.

Filming an Event at The Tabernacle: What You Need to Know

Planning an event at the Tabernacle and need a professional London videographer? Here’s what you should know. This iconic venue combines beauty with challenges: moody lighting, tight stage angles, and limited roaming space. It’s a space where experience counts.

At Shootlab, we’ve filmed in a range of venues across London, and The Tabernacle gave us the chance to bring that expertise into a space full of energy and atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a highlight reel, full-length panel coverage, or video content tailored for social media, we can deliver professional results that reflect the unique character of your event.

Camera Setup for Event Filming: Sony FX6 + Canon C80s

For this event, we used a three-camera setup designed to combine cinematic image quality with flexibility on the ground:

  • Sony FX6 — Our wide-angle workhorse, ideal for establishing shots and sweeping b-roll of the venue.

  • 2x Canon EOS C80 cameras — These covered mid and close-up angles for intimate moments during panel discussions.

The Canon C80 is especially effective at live events. With fast, reliable autofocus, excellent low-light handling, and a compact body, it’s perfect for staying discreet while still capturing broadcast-level footage. This setup meant we could move smoothly throughout the space, adapting quickly to changes in lighting and movement — while still delivering high-quality visuals from every angle.

How We Used the Canon EF 100-400mm Lens for Cinematic Event Videography

To capture expressive, close-up shots without stepping into the spotlight, we used Canon’s EF 100-400mm L lens. This telephoto lens is legendary in both photography and video circles for its razor-sharp image quality and smooth, cinematic bokeh.

We chose it for this project because it gave us:

  • Exceptional image clarity, even in low light

  • Long-range framing from the back of the room

  • A shallow depth of field that separated speakers from the background beautifully

This setup allowed us to film intimate speaker moments without interrupting the flow of the event — ideal for both audience experience and polished final footage.

How We Captured Broadcast-Quality Event Audio Using Direct Feeds and Wireless Mics

A powerful conversation demands crystal-clear sound. To ensure full audio coverage, we used a dual setup:

  • Direct sound feed from the venue’s mixing desk — capturing every word from on-stage microphones with zero interference.

  • 2x Rode Wireless Pro Compact Microphones — perfect for backstage or roaming use. Thanks to their floating point technology, these mics recorded safely even when input levels spiked — no clipping, no distortion.

The result? Clean, consistent audio for both the live audience and final edit — no retakes, no missed moments.

Filming an event is about much more than pointing a camera at a stage. It’s about reading the room, anticipating key moments, and telling the story of your event through visuals and sound. A professional videographer also needs to manage the technical demands behind the scenes — capturing clear audio, selecting the right lenses for distance and atmosphere, working with low-light environments, and ensuring reliable coverage throughout the day.

At Shootlab, we combine technical expertise with creative storytelling. Whether you’re hosting a panel discussion at The Tabernacle or organising a larger event across London, we bring the experience, equipment, and focus needed to capture it beautifully.
